Professional Statement

Stories are a sort of magic. The ability to take an idea from your head and turn it into something that could end up in anyone’s hands is fascinating. I love storytelling in all its forms, and I revel in my ability to explore storytelling through both visual art and text. I write for the web in two ways. The first way is through book reviews with corresponding artwork created by me. The second is through posting monthly—sometimes weekly—segments of an original graphic novel online. Posting online eliminates the need to print and allows me to put more work into writing the story and illustrating the panels, and reach a broader audience with the blink of an eye. If the graphic novel gains traction and becomes popular enough, I will already have the bones of the novel to work with for further publication. Transferring these panels from online to paper should not be difficult. I can combine chapters of my novel into one hard-bound book that can be sent to a printer and sold, or, like Rachel Smythe (who turned her webtoon graphic novel into traditionally published books), I can try to query this graphic novel with the intention of getting it traditionally published.

My media garden will display a proof of concept for a graphic novel written by me. My interactive narrative explores a concept for a cozy game that revolves around making ceramic art. My ability to create a captivating branching narrative will be captured in the concepts of the game document. Social media content will display the ability to create copy and images that sit favorably with the provided visual guidelines of a company or organization.
